Shumin Zhao, MD

Psychiatrist, Shumin Zhao, MD, to our practices. Dr. Zhao received her MD from West China University of Medical Sciences, Chengdu, China. Her psychiatric residency was at Wayne State University. In addition to providing traditional psychiatric services, Dr. Zhao also works with psychiatric aspects of chronic physical diseases and is Board Certified in Psychosomatic Medication. Dr. Zhao is able to see referrals within two to three weeks of initial contact.

It is our philosophy that treatment for moderate to severe mental health issues is most effective when psychopharmacology is coupled with effective psychotherapy. This treatment approach is enhanced with coordinated communication between the medical professional and the psychotherapist. Our clinical procedures are designed to accommodate this level of service for patients referred to us. A patient referred to our clinic is assigned to an appropriate psychotherapist for initial intake and to establish a therapeutic relationship. After this initial visit, the therapist would make a written referral to the psychiatrist (outlining essential details) and schedule follow up psychotherapy services for the patient. Upon completion of the Psychiatric Evaluation, the Psychiatrist and Therapist discuss joint treatment and stay in contact through the duration of treatment services.

At this time, Dr. Zhao is able to accept McLaren, SPHN, Traditional BC/BS, PHP, PPOM, Medicare, and Magellan insurances.
